Thomas Danthony is a french artist based in London and Barcelona.Thomas's work is characterized by a clever use of light, bold compositions and mystery. He worked on the Brutalism collaboration with Black Dragon Press about Brutalism architecture in London. He turns photographs that he has taken in to simplified images in Photoshop and then in turns creates screen prints of his creations. His images allow the shape of the buildings to be more striking as there are no background distractions in his images. |
This is my work compared with the work of Alexey Titarenko. I think both images show an interesting blur of moving people. Even though the images are taken in very different backgrounds, his being outside and mine being in a train station I think they both show a busy, chaotic atmosphere that has been blurred into one. I think both images being in black and white helps to respond to the ghost like style of Titarenko.

For my final development I wanted to go through all the work I have done around public transport and choose my favourite area to continue. So far I have looked at individuals on the tube and train, architecture of stations and movement of people. I think my favourite by far was capturing individual people as I think it shows how commuters tend to isolate themselves on the tube from others by avoiding eye contact or putting headphones in.
That is why i have chosen to go back to a more documentary style for my next developements. |
Why I chose this image - Finally I chose this image because it is slightly different from the others, the man seems very comfortable as he is asleep listening to music which on one hand breaks away from my aim to show how people seem uncomfortable on public transport but on the other hand intensifies it even more as when he is listening to music (blocking out the sounds from the bus) is when he is able to relax and sleep.

Why I chose this image - the most interesting this about this image is the colour, I love how vibrant the yellow scarf is and how it highlights the yellow poles on the bus which makes the buses structure also prominent in this image. Like my previous images this woman also seems very invested into whether she is listening to or reading which again I think provokes whoever looks at this image to wonder about what she is doing.
